Ashwin's father was a professor of History at Cambridge. His mother was a professor of Religious Studies. He was raised in London, afforded the best care and the best schooling but often his mother's traditions were pushed aside, especially by his father's conservative family. He learned of it in bits and pieces and from the books his mother kept around.

Finally, his mother was fed up with it. When Ashwin was fifteen she took him for the summer to her family's home in Mumbai to learn about her traditions. She introduced him to Hinduism and the many languages of India. She also introduced him to her brother, a Hindu sage. He saw potential in young Ashwin and began to teach him the ways of real Hindu magic.

For the next six years Ashwin returned to India to study with his uncle and by the time he went to university was practicing real magic. He met another student in at Oxford, his father was so disappointed in his school choice, who knew Celtic magic and introduced Ashwin to the magic community in London. It was a bit... colonist for his tastes but he wanted to learn more and this was his way in. He socialized and gained favor all while continuing to study.

After graduation he started at the Natural History Museum in London as a curator. He maintains the collections and their records. He was in London when the Sanctum was destroyed by Kaecilius and rushed to fight some of his disciples as they tried to escape.

His actions and courage were unexpected but after Kaecilius is defeated he is named the new Gaurdian of the London Sanctum. Once the Sanctum was rebuilt Ashwin began to smuggle out ancient Indian magical artifacts from the Museum and bring them back to the London Sanctum.

Ashwin is a polite and well spoken man. He smiles easily and is friendly to everyone he meets. He enjoys a good drink and a good football match. He is a detailed oriented person and very focused on achieving his goals. Disciplined, honorable, and merciful he believes in that at the core of it all life is good and all people just want peace in the end.

Of course, if the world is in danger and needs protecting he acts. He is swift and decisive. His magic favors the legends and stories of his people, often shape shifting and summoning spiritual beasts to fight with him.

He is a strict vegetarian who loves to garden and cook.

As a sorcerer Ashwin has a wide range of magical abilities. His magic is rooted in the mystical traditions of India and the legends there. He is fond of shapeshifting into hawks, cobras, and tigers, elephants, and lions. He also summons many of these animals as spiritual companions to fight with him or act as scouts and spies.

He also uses magic of deep insights into the people around him to see if they are good, bad, or mixed between the two. Most people are a mix. He does not trust anyone his magical sight reveals to be very, very bad.

Ashwin also uses it to beat the security around the museum so he can smuggle out true magical artifacts stolen from his people many, many years ago. If an artifact isn't actually magical he will let it stay at the museum as part of its collections.
